An introduction to podcasting for academics
October 17th, 2006At the end of 2005, Gardner Campbell wrote an essay for the Educause Review called “There’s Something in the Air: Podcasting in Education“.
The article, which I found to be interesting if a little far-fetched in places, discusses the potential uses of podcasting within universities. The article does convey the general concept rather nicely, although I found the imaginary scenarios used to highlight points to be slightly cringeworthy in places.
However, I do particularly like the authors comments about using technical staff to handle the technical publication of the podcasts. This is an excellent idea, as all too often in universities, the potential for using technology to engage with students is undermined by poor implementation stemming from a lack of technical expertise and whole-domain knowledge.
In all, a good paper to use as an introduction to podcasting for non-technical staff.
Campbell also has a podcast version of this essay available via the blog post he wrote to support the article.
